the Night

The Night and I have reached an agreement whereby
he cloaks me in anonymity
And I no longer break his silence
With my rants and rails
Against the darkness.

His, the advantage, those childhood years
The creeping footsteps
The monster nears
Goblins and witches and demons
Oh, my.

I thought we had an agreement
Night and I
But Night is like Loki, the trickster
Who waits in silence to catch
you unaware.

Thanks. "Loki" shows up in many guises, most notably in South American cultures.
